If your reference point for “transition” lenses is from a decade ago, you might remember lenses that were slow to change, didn’t get dark enough, or stayed permanently slightly tinted indoors. Today, the technology has fundamentally shifted. Here is an educational look at how the newest generation, Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™, operates and how it impacts daily visual health.

Color as Function

The Purpose Behind the Palette

While colored lenses allow for aesthetic personalization, the tint of a lens actually plays a critical role in how your eyes perceive contrast, depth, and light. GEN 8 lenses are available in seven distinct colors, each serving a unique visual function.

The Core Colors

Grey

The most neutral option. Grey reduces overall brightness without altering color perception. It is ideal for individuals who want the most natural view of the world.

Brown

Brown tints absorb high-frequency light, notably improving contrast and depth perception. This makes it an excellent choice for navigating varying light conditions.

Graphite Green

Originally developed to help naval pilots track objects against the sky and water, green enhances contrast while maintaining excellent color balance and reducing eye strain.

The Style Colors

Amber

A warm hue that significantly enhances contrast and depth perception, filtering out scattered blue light. It is particularly effective in lower-light or overcast conditions.

Emerald

Green-based tints are naturally soothing to the human eye, offering sharp visual accuracy and continuous comfort for outdoor activities.

Sapphire

A cool blue tone that reduces glare and offers excellent color recognition. Visually calming, it provides sharp contrast in mixed lighting environments and helps reduce visual fatigue.

Amethyst

A distinct purple hue that enhances contrast against green backgrounds. It balances color perception while offering a visually relaxing experience in moderate light.

Ruby

A warm, rich red tone. Red and pink-based tints are known for improving visual depth and maximizing contrast, especially against blue or green backgrounds, making them highly functional in variable outdoor environments.
